Village

A village gives you food, beds, a trading hall and an early base all in one spot. This Minecraft village finder shows the nearest villages to spawn for your seed. Enter a seed, click a result and copy the /tp command. You land on the ground in or next to the village. From there, you can claim a bed and start trading right away.

Why Players Want a Village

Villages are the fastest way to set up a survival world. Farms give you free crops. Houses give you beds, so you can set your spawn and skip the night. Job site blocks such as the smithing table and the lectern save crafting time.

Most of all, villagers trade. Librarians sell enchanted books. Armorers and toolsmiths sell diamond gear. Farmers buy crops for emeralds. A good village can carry you all the way to the late game.

Many villages also have chests in houses, blacksmiths and temples, with useful early loot.

How Villages Generate

In Java Edition, villages use regions 34 chunks wide, with at least 8 chunks between attempts. Each attempt then checks the biome.

Java villages generate in plains, meadow, desert, savanna, taiga and snowy plains. Each biome gives the village its own style:

  • Plains and meadow: oak houses with cobblestone.
  • Desert: sandstone houses.
  • Savanna: acacia buildings with terracotta.
  • Taiga: spruce cabins.
  • Snowy plains: snowy houses with ice and packed snow.

Bedrock adds a few extra biomes, such as snowy taiga. Some villages are also abandoned zombie villages, with cobwebs and zombie villagers instead of normal ones.

Finding a Village in Game

In open biomes like plains and desert, you can often spot a village from a hill. Look for paths, farms and the tall bell tower. Rising smoke from a campfire is another clue.

In forests and taigas, though, trees hide them well. You could ride a horse in a straight line and hope, but that wastes a lot of time. A seed map tells you the closest one and how far away it is.

Using the Village Finder Map

Choose your edition and version first. Then type or paste your seed. The map marks the villages closest to spawn and lists them by distance.

Click a result for its coordinates or a /tp command. The teleport puts you on the ground, so you will not fall into a well or land inside a house. Use the 3D view to see the houses and terrain, which helps you judge whether a village is worth settling in.

If you want a specific village type, check the biome around each marker on the map.

Village Version History

Villages first appeared in Java Edition Beta 1.8. Java 1.10 added savanna and taiga variants. The big overhaul came in Java 1.14, Village & Pillage, which rebuilt every village design and added job site blocks and new professions. Java 1.18 added meadow villages and spread villages a little further apart.

Choosing a Good Village to Settle

Not every village makes a good base. Before you settle in, check a few things on the map and on the ground.

  • Size and villager count: bigger villages have more professions to trade with.
  • Terrain: flat land makes it easier to expand farms and build a trading hall.
  • Distance from spawn: a village close to spawn is easy to reach on a server.
  • Nearby resources: forests for wood, water for farms and caves for ore.

Once you move in, protect your villagers. Zombies attack at night, and zombie sieges can break into houses. Light up the village and fence in key areas. An iron golem helps, but it cannot guard everything.

Raids are another threat. They start when a player with Bad Omen or Raid Omen enters the village. Defend it well and you earn the Hero of the Village effect, which lowers trading prices for a while.

Village FAQ

Which biomes have villages in Java Edition?

Plains, meadow, desert, savanna, taiga and snowy plains.

Are villages in the same place in Java and Bedrock?

No. Each edition uses its own placement rules, so choose the right edition before searching.

Can I find a zombie village with the finder?

The finder shows where villages generate. Abandoned zombie villages are a rare variant, so check each village when you arrive.

Does the /tp command drop me in the village?

It puts you on the ground at the village location, not inside a wall or a well.

How far apart are villages?

In Java, villages use 34-chunk regions with at least 8 chunks between attempts, so they are fairly common.
