Enter a seed, pick the nearest mansion and copy its /tp command. You land on the ground right outside. From there, gear up and clear it room by room.

What a Woodland Mansion Offers

A woodland mansion is a giant building made of dark oak and cobblestone. It has two or three floors and dozens of rooms. Many rooms are random, so no two mansions look exactly alike.

The main prize is the totem of undying. Evokers drop one every time you defeat them, and mansions are one of the few places they spawn. Vindicators also roam the halls with iron axes.

Chests hold enchanted books, diamond armor pieces, music discs and more. Some mansions also have secret rooms. Allays can be found caged inside, waiting for you to free them.

How Woodland Mansions Generate

Mansions are among the rarest structures in the game. In Java Edition, they use huge regions 80 chunks wide, with at least 20 chunks between attempts. On top of that, each attempt needs the right biome.

Woodland mansions generate in dark forest and pale garden biomes. If the spot is not one of those, the attempt fails and the region stays empty.

As a result, the nearest mansion is often thousands of blocks from spawn. Some seeds are lucky and have one much closer.

Finding a Mansion in Game

The usual method is a woodland explorer map. Cartographer villagers sell it for emeralds and a compass. The map marks the nearest mansion, but the trip can still be very long.

Because of the distance, many players travel through the Nether to cut the trip by eight. Even so, you first need to know where you are heading. A seed map gives you that up front.

When you reach the right area, look above the treetops. Mansions are taller than dark oak trees, so their gray roofs stand out from a hill or a pillar. In a pale garden, the pale trees and fog make this harder. Climbing up a few blocks often gives you the view you need.

Pick your edition and version, then enter your seed. The map shows the nearest woodland mansions and sorts them by distance from spawn.

Click a marker to copy its coordinates or a /tp command. You arrive on the ground beside the mansion, not on its roof. Next, check the area in the 3D view. Dark forests are dense, so it helps to know where the entrance faces.

Woodland Mansion Version History

Woodland mansions were added in Java Edition 1.11, the Exploration Update. That update also added evokers, vindicators, vexes and the totem of undying. Java 1.19 added caged allays. More recently, pale gardens became a valid biome for mansions after the pale garden was added.

Tips for Clearing a Woodland Mansion

Mansions are big, dark and full of tough mobs. Treat each floor as its own trip.

Vindicators hit hard with axes, so a shield is a must. Evokers summon fangs from the ground and call in vexes that fly through walls. Focus the evoker first, since the vexes stop coming once it dies.

Light up rooms as you clear them. That stops new hostile mobs from spawning behind you. Placing torches also helps you remember where you have been.

A few more tips help:

• Avoid fire. The mansion is built from wood and burns easily.
• Check odd walls and gaps for secret rooms with extra loot.
• Bring food, a bow and several stacks of blocks.
• Set a bed nearby so you can respawn close to the mansion.

Clear the ground floor first. Then work your way up the stairs, room by room.
