Some igloos hide a secret basement with a golden apple and a zombie villager to cure. This Minecraft igloo finder shows where igloos generate from your seed. Enter a seed, choose the nearest result and copy the /tp command. You land on the snow right beside the igloo. Then look under the carpet for a hidden trapdoor.

What an Igloo Holds

An igloo is a small dome of snow blocks with a bed, a crafting table and a furnace. It makes a handy shelter on your first night in a snowy biome.

About half of all igloos have a basement. You reach it through a trapdoor under the carpet and a long ladder. Down there, you find a chest with a golden apple, a brewing stand and two cells. One cell holds a villager, and the other holds a zombie villager.

That setup is a cure kit. Throw a splash potion of weakness at the zombie villager and feed it the golden apple. Cured villagers give you big trading discounts.

How Igloos Generate

Igloos spawn in snowy plains, snowy taiga and snowy slopes. In Java Edition, they use regions 32 chunks wide, with at least 8 chunks between attempts.

If the spot is not one of those biomes, the attempt fails. Snowy biomes can be far from a warm spawn, so some seeds need a long trip.

The basement is decided when the igloo generates. You cannot tell from outside whether one exists, so always check under the carpet.

Finding an Igloo in Game

Igloos are white on white, which makes them hard to see in snowy plains. Look for a small round dome with a short tunnel entrance. A light from the furnace or a torch can help at night.

In snowy taiga and slopes, trees and hills hide them even more. A seed map points you straight to the dome.

Try searching from high ground. In snowy slopes and groves, igloos often sit in small flat areas between hills. A view from above makes the dome easier to separate from the snow around it. Also note that the entrance tunnel faces a random direction. So circle the dome once to find the way in.

Using the Igloo Finder Map

Select your edition and version first. Then enter your seed. The map marks the igloos closest to spawn and sorts them by distance.

Click a result to copy its coordinates or a /tp command. You arrive on the ground next to the igloo, not on top of the dome. Bring a few blocks and a pickaxe. If the trapdoor is there, the basement ladder runs deep, so you can also dig down beside it.

The 3D view shows the snowy terrain around the igloo, which helps when several are close together.

Igloo Version History

Igloos were added in Java Edition 1.9, the Combat Update, together with their hidden basements. Later updates added snowy slopes as a valid biome when mountains were reworked in 1.18.

Curing the Zombie Villager

The igloo basement is set up for curing a zombie villager. You just need two items.

1. Brew a splash potion of weakness. Add a fermented spider eye to a water bottle, then add gunpowder.
2. Take the golden apple from the basement chest.
3. Throw the potion at the zombie villager.
4. While it has Weakness, use the golden apple on it.
5. Wait a few minutes until it turns into a villager.

The cured villager gives you lower prices on its trades. That makes an igloo basement a cheap way to get a discounted trader early in the game.

The basement stays dark and has no windows, so sunlight will not burn the zombie villager. Still, keep an eye on the cell. Breaking the iron bars or the door lets it escape.

If you want to keep the villagers, consider moving them to your base. Use a boat or a minecart, since the ladder is long.
