The 1.18 terrain pushes mushroom fields offshore

With the new world generation, mushroom fields only form in places with the lowest continental values. That puts mushroom islands far out in deep ocean, usually away from other landmasses.

To plan the sail:

• Choose a boat and bring extra planks for repairs.
• Craft a bed and a few torches.
• Mark the route on the map.

Along the way, you may spot ocean monuments, shipwrecks or squid and dolphins out on the water. Drowned also spawn in deep ocean. Keep your distance from them.

Once you arrive, the quiet is worth the trip. The island does not spawn hostile mobs naturally, and mooshrooms provide stew and mushrooms. The terrain is hilly and sometimes oddly steep, thanks to the new noise-based system.

Snowy taiga preparation

The top seed starts in snowy taiga, a land of spruce, snow and wolves. Powder snow can trap you, so wear leather boots when walking near it.

Prepare for the trip:

• Chop spruce for planks and boats.
• Hunt rabbits and cook the meat.
• Look for an igloo or a village to trade for supplies.

Goats live in nearby peaks, and their horns make sound items. Axolotls live in lush caves, which are a new feature in 1.17 and 1.18.

Before leaving the coast, build a small dock and leave spare supplies in a chest so that you have a home base. After the voyage, set your spawn with a bed on the island, which saves you from long swims if you die.
