Minecraft 1.21 Seeds with a Village at Spawn

On Java 1.21.11 we tried 1,800 seeds, and 82 of them put a village within 150 blocks of spawn. The nearest sits 32 blocks away and the average hit is about 55 blocks out. The top seed starts on plains, which suits the usual wheat, potatoes and carrots found in villager farms.

Trading up with a close 1.21 village

A village you can reach before sundown shortens the early game dramatically on Java 1.21. You get beds, food and a place to hide from your first night of zombies, and your emerald economy starts straight away.

Check the villagers by profession and look for these useful trades:

  • Librarian: enchanted books, including Mending. Place a lectern to give them a job.
  • Armorer and toolsmith: iron and diamond gear in return for emeralds.
  • Farmer: bread, pumpkin pie and cheap emerald income from crops.

Cure a zombie villager with a splash weakness potion and a golden apple to get lasting discounts, and keep a spare lectern ready for the Mending trade. Do this once you have an iron golem or two protecting the streets, because night mobs will test the village's gates.

Mixing villagers with trial chamber loot

Version 1.21 gives villages a modern partner: trial chambers. Their vaults pay out emeralds, enchanted books and armour that you can combine with villager trades. The ominous version of a trial gives Bad Omen, which later turns into a raid when you enter the village.

Raids are a risk and a reward. If your village is ready, you may win Hero of the Village and get a discount on every trade.

  • Fence the village streets and place golems near the bell.
  • Store spare beds and doors so villagers can keep breeding.
  • Build a crafter near the farm to automate repeating recipes.

Do not start a raid until you have strong armour and a few golems, because pillagers and ravagers hit hard. With the nearest village only 32 blocks away, you have time to prepare calmly.

FAQ

How do I start a raid on purpose in 1.21?

Get Bad Omen, either by killing a patrol captain or drinking an ominous bottle, then walk into a village. A raid begins shortly afterwards.

Can I move a villager to a new spot safely?

Yes. Use a boat or minecart and keep the path lit so zombies do not interfere.

Which villager gives Mending?

Librarians can offer Mending, but the trade is random. Reset it by breaking and replacing the lectern before you trade with them.

Is a village at spawn good for a farm start?

Yes. Village farms are already planted, so you can harvest and replant straight away and save a lot of time.
