Minecraft Desert Temple Seeds Near Spawn

Desert temples are a classic early loot stop. Of 3,600 Java seeds tested, 69 placed one within 300 blocks of spawn. The nearest is 0 blocks away, directly at spawn, while the average is 97. The top seed starts in the desert itself, so the sandstone pyramid may already be in view.

Looting the temple without setting off the TNT

Under the center of the floor sits a pressure plate with a TNT stack underneath. Step on it and the chamber below blows up with the four chests inside it.

  • Safe approach: dig down at the edge of the central shaft, not through the middle.
  • Disarm: break the pressure plate from the side, or remove the TNT first.
  • Loot: each chest may hold diamonds, emeralds, gold, iron, saddles, bones, rotten flesh and enchanted books.

The big blue terracotta marks the center of the floor. If you see it, you know the trap is below. Place a block over the plate or use a pickaxe to remove it quickly.

The loot is random, so empty all four chests every time.

Staying alive in sun-baked sand

Deserts are bright, dry and mostly empty. You will want water and wood. Bring a bucket and cut logs from the nearest oasis tree or village. Cacti give green dye and burn small things.

Husks spawn in the day and inflict hunger. Keep a shield or eat before you go in. Rabbits are your best food source, and desert wells hold water and sometimes suspicious sand with archaeology rewards.

  • Brush the suspicious sand near the pyramid to find pottery sherds or tools.
  • Use sandstone for early building, which is plentiful.
  • Wear boots to avoid fall damage on dunes.

Nights are cold and spawny, so sleep early.

FAQ

How do I find the trap plate?

It sits under the blue terracotta block at the center of the floor. Dig in from the side to avoid it.

How many chests are in a desert temple?

There are four, one on each side of the central pit, all of which share the trap room.

What does brushing suspicious sand give?

It can return items like pottery sherds, emeralds or tools. You need a brush made from a feather, copper and a stick.

Do husks burn in sunlight?

No, unlike zombies they do not burn. They are made for deserts and inflict hunger.
