Three chests worth finding
Most wrecks have up to three chests: a map chest, a supply chest and a treasure chest. Each holds different loot, so check all of them.
- Map chest: a buried treasure map that leads to a chest holding a heart of the sea.
- Supply chest: bread, carrots, potatoes, paper, wheat and sometimes a bit of tnt or coal.
- Treasure chest: iron, gold, emeralds and now and then a diamond.
Beached wrecks sit half on land, so you can reach them without diving. Sunken ones lie on the sea floor and need air. Turtle helmets, potions of water breathing or a few air pockets help a lot.
Chests may also hold enchanted books, leather armor and sometimes a map to another structure.
Coastal start, hunting for buried treasure
On a beach, sand and sugar cane are everywhere, and sea turtles lay eggs at night. Craft a boat early and row along the shore. Drowned wander out of the water at night, so keep a sword at hand.
The treasure map shows a red X. Use a boat and dig in the marked chunk to find buried treasure. It always holds a heart of the sea, which is the key ingredient for a conduit.
- Bring a shovel to dig quickly through sand and gravel.
- Pack food, because the trip can be long.
- Set a bed on shore so you can respawn near the coast.
A trident from a drowned makes a strong first ranged weapon.

FAQ
What does a buried treasure map show?
It marks a spot on the coast where you can dig up a chest with a heart of the sea and other loot.
Can shipwrecks sit on beaches?
Yes, some are beached or half buried, and those are the easiest to loot.
Do all wrecks have the same chests?
Most have a map, supply and treasure chest, but the loot rolls differ every time.
Are drowned dangerous near wrecks?
They can be, since some carry tridents. Keep a shield and a bit of distance.
