Dappled Forest

The dappled forest is a newer forest biome added in Java 26.3. Its poplar trees have red, orange and yellow leaves, so it looks like autumn all year. Light falls through the canopy in patches onto a leafy floor. This dappled forest finder shows the nearest areas for your seed on the map above.

Where dappled forests generate

Dappled forests appear in cool regions. They often border plains, sunflower plains, cherry groves, ice spikes and swamps. Rivers or valleys frequently separate them from plains.

You may also find them near windswept gravelly hills, cold oceans and frozen peaks. That mix of neighbours means they often sit between temperate and snowy land.

Keep in mind that this biome only exists in newer worlds. Older terrain that was generated before 26.3 will not contain it.

What you find in a dappled forest

Most trees are poplars with warm autumn colours. A few spruce trees mix in. The ground has an orange-brown tint, with patches of coarse dirt and leaf litter.

  • Fallen logs: fallen poplar logs are common on the forest floor.
  • Plants: brown mushrooms and small shrubs grow between the trees.
  • Mobs: foxes, rabbits and sheep spawn here. Pigs, cows and chickens appear as their cold variants.
  • Night: the usual hostile mobs spawn in the dark.

How to use the dappled forest finder

Set the map to Java 26.3 or newer, then enter your seed. The map flies to the closest dappled forest and marks it with a biome icon. The list on the left shows more forests by distance. Click any of them to view it and get coordinates.

In game, try /locate biome minecraft:dappled_forest with cheats. Then teleport with /tp @s X ~ Z. If the command finds nothing nearby, explore chunks you have not loaded before.

If no results appear, double-check the version setting. Older versions do not generate this biome, so the finder needs 26.3 or newer selected.

Tips for builders and explorers

The warm leaf colours make this biome a favourite for autumn builds. A cabin or a small farm fits the look well.

Fallen logs give you quick wood without chopping whole trees. Leaf litter adds texture to paths and gardens.

Foxes here are worth watching. They often pick up items and carry them in their mouths. If you want one as a companion, breed two foxes with sweet berries.

Dappled forests on the map

On the map, dappled forests often appear between plains and colder land. A river or valley commonly marks the edge.

Because the biome is new, older chunks will not have it. If you updated an old world, look for dappled forests in areas you have never visited. The map shows where they exist for a fresh 26.3 world with your seed.

Compare a few results from the list. Larger forests give you more trees and a better chance to meet foxes.

Want to share a dappled forest with friends? Copy the coordinates from the list and send them. Anyone with the same seed and version will find the forest in the same place. Remember that the version setting matters, since earlier versions do not include this biome at all.
