Jungles are the thickest, greenest forests in Minecraft. Giant jungle trees, hanging vines and melon patches fill every gap, and parrots shriek from the canopy. This jungle biome finder reads your world seed and marks the closest jungle areas on the map above. You can then plan a trip for cocoa beans, a temple raid or a treehouse build without walking around for an hour.
Where jungles generate
Jungles form in warm, very humid parts of the world. They show up on flat ground, rolling hills and even cliffs. On their cooler edges you usually find forests, birch forests or dark forests. On the warmer side they give way to deserts and wooded badlands.
You also see them next to mangrove swamps, lukewarm oceans and stony peaks. Sparse jungles and bamboo jungles are close relatives. A river often separates them from the main jungle. Underground, lush caves are common, so a jungle trip can pay off below the surface too.
Jungles were quite rare for many years. Since the 1.18 terrain update they are more common again, but they still count as an uncommon biome.
What you find in a jungle
The tallest trees are 2×2 jungle trees, and many grow past 30 blocks. Smaller jungle trees carry cocoa beans on their trunks. Low jungle bushes and large oaks fill the rest of the space. The ground is covered with grass, ferns, dandelions and poppies.
- Melons: melon patches generate naturally only in jungle biomes.
- Bamboo: single bamboo plants appear here and there.
- Mobs: parrots are the most common animal. Ocelots and pandas spawn too, along with sheep and the warm variants of pigs, cows and chickens.
- Structures: jungle temples (jungle pyramids) and trail ruins can generate here.
Jungle temples are hard to spot. Vines and leaves often hide the mossy cobblestone, so look for odd stone shapes between the trees.
How to find a jungle with the jungle biome finder
In game, you can type /locate biome minecraft:jungle if cheats are on. Without cheats, you need to explore warm regions and follow rivers. That can take a long time.
The map is faster. Enter your seed and pick your edition and version. The map flies straight to the nearest jungle and marks it with a biome icon. The list on the left shows more jungle areas, sorted by distance. Click any entry to jump there and read its coordinates.
Got the coordinates? In creative mode or with cheats, use /tp @s X ~ Z to travel there. In survival, write the numbers down and use the F3 screen (or the coordinates setting on Bedrock) to navigate.
Survival and building tips for the jungle
Bring shears and an axe. Leaves block your view, and jungle wood is fast to gather from the big trees. Climb the tallest tree first to get your bearings.
Cocoa beans are worth collecting early. You can plant them on jungle logs to farm cookies and brown dye. Melon slices also give you a steady food source.
For taming, ocelots trust you when you offer raw cod or salmon. Parrots take seeds. Do not feed parrots cookies, since that kills them.
Builders love jungles for treehouses. The thick trunks hold platforms well, and vines work as natural ladders.
Jungle version history
Jungles arrived in Java 1.2 and ocelots followed soon after. Cocoa beans and jungle temples came in later 1.2 and 1.3 snapshots. Parrots were added in 1.12, while pandas and bamboo arrived in 1.14.
Trail ruins started generating in jungles in 1.20. In 1.21.5, pigs, cows and chickens here became their warm variants.
Jungle FAQ
Are jungles rare in Minecraft?
Jungles are uncommon rather than rare. They became more common again with the 1.18 terrain changes, but you may still need to travel a few thousand blocks to reach one.
What is the command to find a jungle?
Use /locate biome minecraft:jungle with cheats enabled. It returns the coordinates of the nearest jungle biome.
Do jungle temples spawn in every jungle?
No. Jungle temples generate only in jungle biomes, but not every jungle has one. The structure is also easy to miss under the leaves.
Where do pandas spawn?
Pandas spawn in jungles and are much more common in bamboo jungles. Look for them near bamboo.
Can I find melons outside a jungle?
Melon patches generate naturally only in jungle biomes. Elsewhere you need seeds from chests or trading.
