Lush Caves

Lush caves are green underground gardens. Moss covers the floor, glow berries hang from the ceiling, and axolotls swim in clay-lined pools. This lush caves finder searches your seed and marks the nearest areas on the map above, using the cave biome layer. Use it to grab moss, azaleas and an axolotl without endless digging.

Where lush caves generate

Lush caves form mostly below humid biomes. Dark forests, bamboo jungles and old growth taigas are typical spots. Inland, they become less common, and dripstone caves sometimes take their place.

They can also appear under oceans and deserts, where humidity does not matter. On the surface, an azalea tree is the classic clue. Its roots and rooted dirt reach down toward the cave.

What you find in lush caves

The floor is carpeted with moss blocks, grass and azalea bushes. From above, cave vines dangle with glowing berries. Spore blossoms drip green particles from the ceiling.

  • Plants: moss, azalea, flowering azalea, small and big dripleaf, cave vines and spore blossoms.
  • Water: clay pools with dripleaf growing out of them.
  • Mobs: axolotls, tropical fish and glow squid in the water, plus bats.

Hostile mobs still spawn in the dark parts, so light it up.

On the surface, the area above a lush cave often looks normal. The azalea tree is usually the only hint. Below it, though, a whole garden can stretch for many blocks in every direction.

How to find lush caves in your world

In game, look for azalea trees on the surface. Dig straight down beside one, and you often reach a lush cave.

The finder gives you exact spots instead. Enter your seed and select your edition. This page reads the cave layer, so underground biomes show up. Next, the map flies to the nearest lush cave and marks it with a biome icon. More areas wait in the list on the left; click any to jump there.

Teleport to the coordinates, then dig down a staircase. Spectator mode is a handy way to peek in first.

Lush caves tips

Bring a bucket of water and a bucket of tropical fish. You can scoop up an axolotl in a water bucket and feed it to breed more. Axolotls also help you fight drowned and guardians.

Moss spreads when you use bone meal on it, which makes it great for a renewable moss farm. Big dripleaf tilts when you stand on it, so do not use it as a bridge over a drop. Finally, glow berries give light and food at the same time.

Lush caves finder tips for an underground base

Lush caves are one of the nicest places to live underground. They are bright with glow berries, green with moss, and full of water. In short, they feel much less hostile than a plain stone cave.

Before building, compare a few areas from the list on the left. Look for a large patch, since bigger lush caves have more open space. Then dig a safe staircase down from the surface.

Glow berries can be farmed by letting cave vines grow and picking them. Moss and azaleas are easy to move, so you can extend the garden into your base. Also, keep the clay pools intact if you want axolotls to keep spawning there.

Lush caves version history

Lush caves first appeared in Java 1.17, but only in buffet and custom worlds. They began generating naturally in 1.18. Tropical fish started spawning in them during 1.18 development.
