Sulfur caves are a newer underground biome, added in Java 26.2 with the Chaos Cubed drop. Yellow sulfur and red cinnabar cover the walls, and acid-green pools bubble below. This sulfur caves finder reads your seed and marks the nearest areas with a biome icon on the map above, using the cave biome layer. Use it to reach the biome quickly and gather its new blocks.
Where sulfur caves generate
Sulfur caves sit at roughly the same depth as lush and dripstone caves. However, they are usually smaller and more broken up.
They are most common under flat terrain, such as swamps, deserts and other flatlands. They do not generate directly under river valleys or high mountains. Occasionally, a sulfur spring on the surface hints at sulfur caves below.
Because they are smaller and more scattered than other cave biomes, sulfur caves can be hard to find by chance. You might dig through several regular caves first. That is where a map helps most. The finder shows exactly where the biome sits underground, so you can go straight to it.
What you find in sulfur caves
Sulfur and cinnabar make up most of the landscape, in roughly equal amounts. Between them, you still see patches of stone and deepslate.
- Sulfur pools: pools of acid-green water with potent sulfur at the bottom.
- Sulfur spikes: spikes that grow on top of sulfur.
- Mobs: the sulfur cube is the most common monster, alongside the usual cave mobs.
Because sulfur and cinnabar replace most of the stone, ores are rare here. Mine elsewhere if you need iron or diamonds.
How to find sulfur caves with this map
In game, explore under flat lowlands like swamps and deserts. A sulfur spring on the surface is the best clue you can get.
The map does the hard part. Enter your seed and choose your edition. This page reads the cave layer, so the underground biome becomes visible. The map flies to the nearest sulfur cave and marks it with a biome icon. Check the list on the left for more, and click one to move there.
Teleport above the spot, then dig down. Spectator mode lets you scout the cave before you commit.
Sulfur caves safety tips
Potent sulfur at the bottom of the pools releases a gas that causes Nausea. Therefore, avoid lingering near the pools, especially during fights.
Sulfur cubes spawn often, so light the area before you mine. Mineshafts can cut through sulfur caves as well. Their chest minecarts are worth checking while you explore.
Sulfur caves finder: what to bring
Because sulfur caves are new, many players visit them for the first time without a plan. A small kit makes the trip much easier.
- Torches or other light: sulfur cubes and cave monsters spawn in the dark.
- Spare tools: you will dig through a lot of new blocks.
- Food and milk: milk clears status effects, including Nausea.
- Building blocks: handy for sealing off sulfur pools or bridging over them.
Plan to collect samples of each new block. Sulfur and cinnabar are both abundant, so you can gather plenty in one visit. After that, use the list on the left to find a second sulfur cave if you need more.
Sulfur caves version history
Sulfur caves were announced at Minecraft Live in 2026. They arrived in Java 26.2 as part of the Chaos Cubed drop. In Bedrock, they first appeared in 26.20 behind an experimental toggle.
