Where old growth spruce taigas generate

Like its pine sibling, this biome needs fairly low temperatures and very high humidity. However, it appears where weirdness is negative. That small difference decides which of the two you get.

The spruce and pine versions often meet, either directly or across a river. Regular taigas and dark forests are common neighbours. Windswept forests, swamps, groves and pale gardens appear less often. Below the surface, lush caves are very common.

From above, the canopy looks darker and fuller than the pine version. That is the quickest way to tell them apart.

What you find in an old growth spruce taiga

The tall 2×2 spruces keep their leaves around the whole trunk. That makes the forest darker and fuller than the pine version. Regular spruce and pine trees fill the gaps.

• Ground: podzol, coarse dirt and mossy cobblestone boulders.
• Plants: ferns, large ferns, sweet berry bushes, dead bushes and mushrooms.
• Animals: chestnut wolves, foxes, rabbits, sheep and cold pigs, cows and chickens.
• Structures: trail ruins and abandoned camps.

Villages and pillager outposts do not generate here.

Once in game, F3 shows minecraft:old_growth_spruce_taiga. Huge, cone-shaped spruces and brown ground mark the biome. To get there quickly, use /tp @s X 130 Z and then glide down, because the trees are tall.

Tips for building and survival

Spruce wood is a favourite for rustic builds, cabins and medieval towns. Since the trees are huge, one tree can fill several stacks. Also, four saplings planted in a square grow a new giant spruce.

Collect podzol with Silk Touch for mushroom farms. Mossy cobblestone from the boulders is handy for decoration.

Chestnut wolves only spawn here, so this is the place to tame one. Foxes and rabbits add food and hunting options. However, the thick canopy keeps the ground dim, so mobs can spawn under the trees. Also, snow can fall on higher ground, starting lower than in the pine version.

Setting up a giant spruce wood farm

Giant spruce trees are among the best wood sources in the game. Here is a simple plan:

• Plant four spruce saplings in a 2×2 square.
• Leave space above, because the trees grow very tall.
• Use bone meal or wait for growth.
• Chop from the top down, or use a scaffold tower.

When a giant spruce grows, it turns nearby grass and dirt into podzol. So a wood farm also gives you podzol for mushroom farms.

You can collect saplings from the leaves as you chop. Also, sweet berries in this biome give food while you work. However, mobs can spawn in the shade of the big trees. Light up your farm area well.
