The savanna is a hot, dry grassland with flat-topped acacia trees and golden-green grass. It has horses, armadillos and colourful acacia villages. Rain never falls here. This savanna biome finder shows the closest savanna for your seed. Type the seed above, and the map flies to the nearest one and marks it with a biome icon, with more savannas listed on the left.
Where savannas generate
Savannas form in warm to hot climates with low humidity. The ground is usually flat to gently rolling. On higher, steeper ground, savanna plateaus take over.
Common neighbours include deserts, plains, jungles and badlands. Mangrove swamps can appear where erosion is very high. Savannas are common, so you will usually find one if you head toward warmer land.
Inside a savanna, the trees stand far apart, so you can see a long way. That makes it easy to spot villages, horses and outposts from a distance. Rivers and small hills break up the land. In addition, the grass colour changes subtly where the savanna meets cooler biomes, so the border is easy to see.
What you find in a savanna
The grass has a dry, yellowish tint. Acacia trees with angled trunks and flat canopies stand far apart, along with a few small oaks.
- Animals: armadillos, horses, donkeys, sheep and warm pigs, cows and chickens.
- Structures: savanna villages made of acacia and terracotta, pillager outposts and abandoned camps.
- Plants: tall grass, flowers, pumpkins, sugar cane and firefly bushes near water.
Llamas spawn in savannas only in Bedrock Edition.

Survival and building tips for the savanna
Savannas are good for an early base. The land is open and fairly flat, and villages are common. Also, horses spawn here, so you can find a fast mount quickly.
Armadillos are worth finding. Brush one to get a scute, then craft wolf armour from six scutes. Armadillos roll up when a player sprints near them, so approach slowly.
Acacia wood has a bright orange colour that suits desert and tropical builds. Since it never rains here, crops still need nearby water. However, the open land gives little cover from mobs at night, so light up your base.
Savanna villages and horses
Savanna villages are built from acacia wood and terracotta. Their warm orange colours make them easy to spot. Like other villages, they have farms, beds and villagers to trade with.
Horses are another highlight. Each horse has random speed, jump strength and health. So tame a few and keep the best. To tame one, mount it repeatedly until hearts appear. Then add a saddle to ride it.
Donkeys spawn here too. They can carry a chest, which makes them useful for long trips.
Finally, savannas often border deserts and badlands. So a savanna base gives you quick access to sand, terracotta and other warm-biome resources.
Savanna version history
The savanna returned in Java 1.7.2 after an early version was removed. Java 1.14 added pillager outposts and the current savanna villages. Java 1.18 stopped water lakes from forming here. Java 1.20.5 added armadillos. In Java 1.21.5, its farm animals became warm variants. Java 26.3 added abandoned camps.
