The End biome is the central island of the End dimension, where you fight the ender dragon. It is a floating island of end stone, ringed by obsidian pillars and surrounded by endless void. This page finds the End biome for your seed and shows it on the map above. The map switches to the End automatically, so you can see the island and the void around it.
Where the End biome generates
In Java Edition, the End biome covers the main island at the center of the End. Everything else, out on the far islands, uses four other End biomes.
In Bedrock Edition, things are simpler. The whole End dimension is one biome, called the End. Either way, the main island always sits at the center of the dimension, around X 0, Z 0.
The island is surrounded by a wide gap of empty void. Beyond it, roughly 1,000 blocks out, the outer islands begin. You cannot reach them on foot without an end gateway or a very long bridge.
What you find on the main End island
The island is made of end stone. Tall obsidian pillars rise around its center, each topped with an end crystal that heals the dragon. In the middle stands the exit portal frame, built from bedrock.
- Mobs: the ender dragon and many endermen.
- After the fight: the exit portal opens and the dragon egg appears on top of it.
- Structures: end gateways appear around the island after each dragon kill.
Throw an ender pearl into a gateway to reach the outer islands.
How to reach the End biome in your world
In game, you need to find a stronghold and activate its End portal with eyes of ender. Jumping in sends you straight to the main island.
This map lets you preview it first. Enter your seed and pick Java or Bedrock. The map switches to the End and flies to the central island, marking it with a biome icon. The list on the left shows the matching area, and clicking it recenters the view.
To find the portal itself, use the stronghold finder on this site. In creative, you can also run /execute in minecraft:the_end run tp @s 0 100 0 in Java.
Tips for the dragon fight
Destroy the end crystals first. Shoot them with arrows, and break the iron cages around the protected ones. Otherwise, the dragon keeps healing.
Bring a pumpkin to wear or avoid looking at endermen, since there are dozens on the island. Also carry blocks and slow falling potions. Falling into the void means losing all your items.
After the dragon: what the End biome offers
The main island stays useful long after the fight. Endermen spawn there in large numbers, which makes it a classic spot for an enderman farm. Those farms give lots of ender pearls and experience.
You can also respawn the dragon. Place four end crystals on the edges of the exit portal, and the fight begins again. Each new kill creates another end gateway, up to twenty in total. The dragon egg, however, only appears after the first kill.
The exit portal also takes you home. Jump into it after the fight to return to your spawn point.
The End version history
The End dimension and the ender dragon arrived in Java 1.0. Version 1.9 reworked the fight and added end gateways, the outer islands, end cities and chorus plants. In 1.13, the End was split into several biomes in Java.
