The end midlands are the gentle slopes of the outer End islands, between the hilltops and the cliffs. The land is bare end stone without chorus trees, yet end cities can still generate here. This end midlands finder reads your seed and marks the nearest midlands with a biome icon on the map above. The map moves to the End automatically.
Where end midlands generate
End midlands form on the outer End islands. They make up the slope from the hilltops of each island down toward the cliffs at its edge.
So, in most cases, end highlands sit in the middle and end barrens line the rim. The midlands fill the space between. This split is a Java Edition feature; in Bedrock, the End uses a single biome.
What you find in the end midlands
The ground is end stone, and the landscape is mostly open. Unlike the highlands, chorus trees do not generate here.
- Structures: end cities, with shulkers and possible end ships.
- Mobs: endermen are the only natural spawn.
- Blocks: end stone, plus purpur blocks in any end city.
Because the slopes are smooth, the midlands are a good place to land an elytra or build a base.
From above, the midlands look like a smooth ring of end stone around each hilltop. They are usually wide, which makes them easy to see on the map. End cities in the midlands stand out clearly against the open land. In addition, the gentle slopes mean you rarely need stairs or bridges here, unlike near the barrens.
How to find end midlands in your world
In game, go through an end gateway after defeating the dragon. Then walk from an island's center toward its edge. The open slope is the midlands.
Using the finder is faster. Type your seed and select Java. The map shifts to the End and flies to the closest end midlands, outlining the area. The list on the left offers more midlands; click one and the map follows.
Copy the coordinates and fly over with an elytra, or use /execute in minecraft:the_end run tp @s X 100 Z in creative.
End midlands tips
Watch the skyline for purpur towers. End cities here are just as valuable as those in the highlands. They hold good loot, and some include an end ship with an elytra.
Endermen are common, so avoid eye contact or wear a carved pumpkin. Also, build a small platform near the island edge before exploring. It gives you a safe point to return to if you get knocked off.
End midlands finder for base builders
The midlands are a natural middle ground. They are flatter than the highlands and safer than the barrens. That makes them good for building.
Start by checking the list on the left for a large midlands patch. A big area means more open, gently sloping land. Ideally, choose one with highlands nearby, so end cities and chorus fruit are within reach.
End stone is a solid building block with high blast resistance. You can craft it into end stone bricks for a cleaner look. Because the End has no day and night cycle, your base looks the same at all times. So plan your lighting for looks, since the sky stays dark.
Version history
The outer islands were added in Java 1.9. In 1.13, they were split into biomes, and this one was named end midlands.
