Windswept Savanna

The windswept savanna is a wild, broken version of the savanna. Acacia trees cling to jagged peaks, overhangs and even floating islands of stone and coarse dirt. It is the rarest savanna variant and a favourite for dramatic screenshots. This windswept savanna finder shows where it is in your seed. Enter the seed above and the map marks the nearest one with a biome icon.

Where windswept savannas generate

Windswept savannas form in hot, dry climates where erosion is moderately high and weirdness is positive. They often appear near coasts. Because this mix is unusual, the biome is rare.

Deserts and regular savannas are typical neighbours. Mangrove swamps can also appear nearby. However, a savanna plateau never borders a windswept savanna.

Inside the biome, flat areas are rare. Most of the land is made of steep columns, thin ridges and deep gaps. Some spires end in floating chunks with acacia trees on top. So the view changes a lot as you move through it. On the map, it often shows up as small, jagged patches next to the coast.

What you find in a windswept savanna

The terrain is the star. Steep spires, overhangs, waterfalls and lavafalls can reach as high as Y=256. The surface mixes grass blocks with coarse dirt and a lot of bare stone.

  • Trees: acacia trees shaped by the windswept terrain.
  • Animals: armadillos, horses, donkeys, sheep and warm pigs, cows and chickens.
  • Plants: flowers, grass, mushrooms, pumpkins, sugar cane and firefly bushes near water.

Unlike regular savannas, villages and pillager outposts do not generate here.

How to find a windswept savanna

Use the map, because this biome is hard to find by walking. Enter your seed and edition, and the map flies to the nearest windswept savanna and outlines it. The list on the left shows other matches in range, sorted by distance. Click one to see it.

In game, F3 reads minecraft:windswept_savanna. Look for acacia trees on wild, spiky terrain. If you teleport, use a high Y such as /tp @s X 200 Z and bring slow falling or an elytra. The peaks can be very tall.

Building and exploring tips

Builders love this biome. The natural spires and arches make amazing bases, bridges and lookout towers. For example, a house on a floating island needs almost no extra terrain work.

Exploring is risky, though. Cliffs are steep, and lavafalls can catch you by surprise. So carry water, food and fire resistance if you can.

Animals are similar to the savanna. Horses help you cross the flatter parts, and armadillos give scutes for wolf armour. Also, the biome counts for the Adventuring Time advancement.

Windswept savanna vs savanna plateau

Both are raised savanna variants, but they feel completely different.

  • Savanna plateau: high, mostly flat land with cliffs at the edge.
  • Windswept savanna: broken spires, overhangs and floating islands.
  • Animals: plateaus spawn llamas and spotted wolves. Windswept savannas spawn armadillos, horses and donkeys but no llamas or wolves in Java.
  • Neighbours: the two never border each other.

Neither biome has villages or pillager outposts. So for trades, look in the regular savanna nearby.

If you want an easy build site, choose the plateau. If you want dramatic scenery, choose the windswept savanna. Also, the windswept version is rarer, so use the map to find it.
