Seed map › Versions › Java 1.12

Java Edition 1.12, the World of Color update, was released on June 7, 2017. It is the oldest version this site supports. This Minecraft 1.12 seed map shows your world with the classic generator, before the Update Aquatic changed the oceans. Enter your seed to find villages, temples, mansions, monuments and strongholds near spawn.

World of Color and World Generation

World of Color added concrete, glazed terracotta, parrots and the recipe book. However, it did not add new biomes or structures. Instead, the 1.12 world uses the generator built up over earlier releases.

That includes structures many players still love:

  • Woodland mansions in roofed forests, added in 1.11
  • Ocean monuments in deep oceans
  • Igloos in snowy biomes, some with a hidden basement
  • Desert and jungle temples, witch huts and villages
  • End cities on the outer End islands

Classic Oceans and Biome Names

In 1.12, oceans have no temperature variants. You get plain ocean and deep ocean, without coral reefs, icebergs or shipwrecks. Many biomes also use their old names. For example, the dark forest is called roofed forest, and snowy plains are called ice plains.

The world runs from Y 0 to Y 255. Mountains are called extreme hills, and they top out well below modern peaks.

Do 1.12 Seeds Work in Later Versions?

Partly. In 1.13, land terrain and land biomes generally stay where they were, but the oceans were rebuilt. Versions 1.14 to 1.17 kept that land layout, while adding new villages, bamboo jungles and a new Nether.

From 1.18 on, however, a 1.12 seed gives a completely different world. The whole Overworld generator was replaced. So if you want to revisit an old 1.12 world, use this map, not a modern one.

Checking Your Version and Using the Minecraft 1.12 Seed Map

The version shows in the bottom-left corner of the title screen. In the launcher, create or check a profile under Installations and pick release 1.12, 1.12.1 or 1.12.2. All three fit this page.

  • Many modpacks still run 1.12.2. Use this map to scout vanilla structures before mods add their own.
  • Look for roofed forests if you want a woodland mansion.
  • Check snowy biomes for igloos, and dig under the carpet for a possible basement.
  • Mark ocean monuments in deep oceans for prismarine and sponges.

The End in 1.12

The End in 1.12 already has everything modern players expect. After you beat the dragon, an end gateway takes you to the outer islands. There, end cities rise among chorus plants.

Some end cities have an end ship docked nearby. Each ship holds an elytra, and shulkers guard the city. Shulker shells craft into shulker boxes, which keep your items inside when broken.

Use the map's End view to find end cities near the main island. That saves you hours of flying.

The Nether in 1.12 is the old single biome. Fortresses are your main target there, for blaze rods and wither skeleton skulls. Bastions and the colorful Nether forests only arrived in 1.16.

FAQ

Did 1.12 change world generation?

No notable changes. World of Color added blocks, parrots and the recipe book, but no new biomes or structures.

Does this map work for 1.12.2?

Yes. 1.12, 1.12.1 and 1.12.2 all use the same world generation.

Why are there no coral reefs in 1.12?

Coral reefs, warm oceans and shipwrecks were added in 1.13, the Update Aquatic.

Can I use a 1.12 seed in 1.21?

You can, but the world will look completely different. Version 1.18 replaced the whole Overworld generator.
