Seed map › Ores Finder › Copper Finder
Copper builds lightning rods, spyglasses, copper bulbs and plenty of decorative blocks. This Minecraft copper ore finder predicts where copper ore generates from your seed. Enter a seed and the map marks predicted veins near spawn. Click one to copy coordinates or a /tp command. Then grab a stack in a few minutes.
Best Y Level for Copper
Copper ore generates from Y -16 to Y 112. It is most common around Y 47 to 48 and fades out toward both ends.
That height often sits near the surface or just under it. So copper is one of the easiest ores to reach. You can find it in hillsides, shallow caves and cliffs.
Copper also shows up often on cave walls and in cliffs. Its peak sits fairly close to the surface, so caves, ravines and hillsides cut through plenty of it. As a result, you can often collect it while exploring, without digging long tunnels at all. Bring a stone pickaxe or better and gather it as you go.
Copper veins can be large, so you often get more than you need. Store the extra as blocks of copper to save space. Nine ingots make one block, and you can turn the block back into ingots whenever you want.
Copper in Dripstone Caves
Dripstone caves get an extra batch of copper ore. On top of that, blobs there are much larger on average. If your seed has a big dripstone cave nearby, you can fill your inventory fast.
Copper also forms large ore veins above Y 0. These long bands mix copper ore with granite, plus the odd block of raw copper. Follow streaks of granite and you may find one.
Using the Copper Ore Finder Map
Pick your edition and version, then enter your seed. The map shows predicted copper veins near spawn, sorted by distance.
Click a result to copy its coordinates or a /tp command. You arrive on the surface above the vein. Next, dig to the listed Y level and mine around the point.
A stone pickaxe or better works. Copper ore drops several raw copper, and Fortune adds more. Smelt the raw copper into ingots.
Copper History and Limits
Copper ore was added in Java and Bedrock 1.17, Caves & Cliffs Part I. Its current height spread arrived with 1.18. So choose 1.17 or later on the finder.
Caves and aquifers can remove part of a vein after it forms. Treat each marker as a place to dig, and check the blocks around it.
Uses for Copper and Oxidation
Copper blocks change color over time. They pass through four stages: normal, exposed, weathered and oxidized. Each stage turns them greener.
You can control this:
- Wax: use honeycomb on a copper block to stop it from aging.
- Scrape: use an axe to remove one stage of oxidation or the wax.
- Lightning: a lightning strike removes oxidation from nearby copper.
Copper also makes useful items:
- Lightning rods protect builds from fire.
- Spyglasses let you zoom in on distant places.
- Brushes are needed for archaeology.
- Copper bulbs, grates and doors add new building and redstone options.
Builders love copper for roofs and accents. Plan the color you want, then wax it once it reaches that stage.
